About Our Parish

Welcome to the Mid-Ohio Valley Parish Disciples of Christ.  We are a unique two-church parish that crosses state and regional lines.  We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a mainline protestant denomination founded in America (not too far from here) over 200 years ago and a leader in ecumenical [churches working together] movement.  We believe that we are “Christians only, but not the only Christians.”

COME WORSHIP WITH US: We have two different Sunday worship services.  The earlier (9:00 AM) service is at Central Christian Church in Marietta, OH and the later (10:45 AM) service is at First Christian Church in Parkersburg, WV.  Both services are designed to be uplifting and encouraging.  Our focus is on the One we worship, not the worshipers.  So don’t worry about what to wear or how to act, just come.

COME SERVE WITH US: We believe in putting our faith into action.  These two churches have more and greater ministries together than either could have separately.  There is a place for you here. The Annual Free Mid-Ohio Valley Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner, Children’s Worship and Wonder, Disaster Relief, Educational Ministries for  Adults and Children, Funeral Dinners, and our Health & Food Ministries are just a few of the ministries we do.

COME JOIN WITH US: Our only test of fellowship is the belief that Jesus is the Son of the Living God and is your personal Lord and Savior.  We have no creeds, letters, or statements, one must adhere to in order to join.  Our belief is that when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Matthew 16:16) you make yourself a “living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1-2) to God, and therefore, you only have to answer for the choices you make.  It is not our place to dictate to you what to do, but to help educate and disciple each other in the bonds of love so that we may all be more faithful. God gave us all a brain and a Bible and expects us to use them both at the same time.

We hope to see You in Church Sunday. We'll be looking for you.

We believe God’s mission for the Church is to be And to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Witnessing and serving from our doorsteps "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8)

As the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, We believe God calls us to strengthen congregational life for this mission. We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.  As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.
